Ghost
Connect a Ghost site so RankYak publishes articles to it, live or as drafts, with the author and tags you choose.
The Ghost integration lets RankYak publish articles directly to your Ghost site, whether it runs on Ghost(Pro) or on your own server. The connection is made with the Admin API key of a custom integration in your Ghost admin, and once connected, every new article is posted automatically, either live or as a draft for your review. Each article arrives as a regular Ghost post, so you may open and edit it in the Ghost editor like any other.
Finding your Admin API key
Ghost issues API keys per integration, so you should create one for RankYak:
- Sign in to your Ghost admin.
- Open Settings, then Advanced, then Integrations.
- Click Add custom integration, name it "RankYak", and click Create.
- Copy the Admin API key and the API URL shown on the integration page.
The API URL is the address of your Ghost admin, not necessarily of your public site. On Ghost(Pro), it ends in .ghost.io even when your site uses a custom domain, so you should copy it from the integration page rather than typing your domain.
Connecting in RankYak
Go to Settings, then Integrations, and click Connect next to Ghost. Paste the API URL and the Admin API key into the matching fields and click Connect. RankYak tests the connection immediately, so a typo in either value is caught on the spot. Publishing starts with the next scheduled article; there is no further setup step.
Choosing an author and tags
After connecting, RankYak opens the integration settings. Typically, the site owner is the author of every published article, since Ghost assigns the owner when no author is given. If you would like the articles to appear under a different staff user, select one under Author. You may also enter one or more tags, separated by commas; each article is published with those tags, and a tag that does not exist in Ghost yet is created on the first publish. Of course, you may change both at any time by clicking Edit settings next to the connection.
Publishing as drafts
If you would like to review each article before it goes live, enable Publish articles as draft in the same settings. Articles then arrive in Ghost as drafts, so you may review and publish them from the Ghost editor on your own terms.
Updating published articles
When an article is refreshed or rewritten in RankYak, the Ghost post is updated in place: its address does not change and it keeps its place in your feed. The new body replaces the old one, so any edits made to the text inside the Ghost editor are replaced by the new version. However, the tags, the status, and the URL slug you set in Ghost are kept, so a draft you have promoted to a live post stays live, and a slug you have shortened stays short.
Ghost stores posts in its own editor format and converts the article on arrival. Headings, paragraphs, lists, images, and links become native Ghost blocks, so you may edit them in the editor. A table or an embedded video arrives as an HTML block, which Ghost renders as-is.
Disconnecting
To stop publishing to Ghost, go to Settings, then Integrations, and click Disconnect next to the connection. Publishing stops immediately; posts already on your site are not affected. You should also delete the RankYak integration in your Ghost admin afterwards, which revokes the API key.
